What is the Kinship Navigator Program?
Foster care is often the first step when a child is no longer safe in the care of their parents. But research shows that if a child in need of foster care is able to stay with their family of origin, that child will have a better opportunity to thrive. Kinship caregivers help keep families together, and with the right support, can help provide children a more stable and safer home.
The Kinship Navigator Program is designed to provide those supports to children and their relative caregivers in the District of Columbia.
CFSA understands that caring for a child can often bring unforeseen challenges and barriers – which is why we are dedicated to improving community and caregiver capacity to keep children safe and well in the homes of their relatives.
Through the program, Kinship caregivers can access a variety of powerful resources, including a support hotline, community resource directory, advisory committee, and support group.
